About the course

This is the first course of the specialized Mathematics Education program for primary school teachers. The second course Learning Elementary Mathematics and the third Teaching Elementary Mathematics are available on Coursera. Each course lasts approximately six weeks, with an average dedication of 4 hours per week. All assessments have feedback and you will be able to download most course resources.

In this course, you will be able to learn about mathematics from four perspectives: its history, the concepts and procedures that characterize it, the different ways in which it is present (for example, tables, graphs, or symbolic expressions), and the phenomena and situations that give them meaning.

This course includes presentation videos and explanation of the topics, learning and evaluation activities, concept maps, and additional bibliography. The evaluation is designed so that you receive feedback that is registered in the platform, so that you can continue with your progress when you connect again. You can download most content for use without an Internet connection.
